What to Expect During the Evaluation Process
The mental health evaluation process involves various aspects, including:
Referral and case coordination
Your attorney refers you to a qualified immigrant mental health evaluator and provides necessary case information.
Intake and document review
After scheduling an appointment for a clinical interview, you provide any necessary documents for the mental health professional.
Clinical interview
A psychosocial assessment of previous history and current mental health symptoms. This interview typically lasts around 2 hours.
Psychological testing
During the interview, you will be administered certain psychological tests to assess for symptoms related to anxiety, depression, and PTSD, among other mental health conditions.
Report writing
Reports typically take about 1-2 weeks, after which they are sent to your attorney for review.
Final report
Once the attorney confirms the details, you are provided with a copy of the report. Your attorney will include the report in the packet of documents that you send to USCIS.
